CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Mewtwo
Age: Barely a year, if that, but mentally an adult.
Canon: Pokemon
World Description: Here
History: Here
Death: Killed by Giovanni’s drones that were built to subjugate it. As Giovanni predicted, its body gave out before its mind did.
What are your plans for this character in-game? Getting Mewtwo to develop beyond its distrust for humans and getting out of its comfort zone among its fellow clones is the main thing- allowing it to see for itself that it can live somewhere safe and free among humans even if Beacon is in no way like the world it came from. Ultimately, getting it to form bonds with the people of Beacon and forming something of a protector role to them is my endgame.
What aspects of this game and/or its setting are you most interested in having this character engage with? Teamwork! Mewtwo needs to learn to trust and cooperate with humans to eventually get to a point where it can protect them and learn from them.
How does your character generally get along with other people? Mewtwo does not get along well with humans, given it doesn’t trust them. Being shown that the humans around it have no interest in controlling or hurting it will ease its mind, but ultimately it will want to be left alone… Until that proves to be too unbearably lonely. It’s going to have a hard time and will require patience, but it has no reason to harm or cause a problem with anyone who hasn’tthreatened it.
What is your character's mental state upon entering the game? Smug satisfaction that it got one up on Giovanni and ultimately kept him from subjugating it is the primary emotion it feels, but it is also extremely worried about what will happen to the other clones on Mount Quena, as well as general fear about what exactly happens next.
Skills/Abilities:PSYCHIC As well as the traditional uses of telekinesis (lifting things with its mind), Mewtwo can fling enemies away, lift them up off the ground and crush them with psychic pressure. It’s UNHOLY! PSYCHIC! POWER! can also be concentrated into powerful enemy beams.
It also has telepathy, allowing it to speak in the minds of other beings, and can also read basic surface thoughts and probe deeper into minds that aren’t shielded from psychic influence. It can also levitate/fly, but that will obviously be nerfed to reasonable level in-game. It will more or less only be able to hover about twenty feet off the ground at most.
Its power to control minds, erase memories, and manipulate the weather (inexplicably) will be nerfed to nonexistence.
BARRIER Mewtwo summons a blue barrier around itself that resembles a bubble. This prevents attacks from making direct contact, but will weaken over time.
COUNTER: Mewtwo sticks out its hand when an attack comes near it. The attack bounces off and is sent back to the opponent.
SHADOW BALL Mewtwo puts its hands together and forms a black ball of energy, and then shoots it at the opponent.
Flaws/Weaknesses:
CHILDISHNESS Due to being very young emotionally and suffering from massive amounts of trauma related to its creation and being used by Giovanni, Mewtwo can often behave like a psychopathic child throwing a tantrum. It reacts strongly to things that threaten or challenge it, and while this has been downgraded due to its character development present at the end of Mewtwo Strikes Back, it still lacks the ability to back down from challenges, ignore threats, or take insults to its pride lightly.
PARANOIA: Mewtwo distrusts everyone and everything instinctively due to having been used and betrayed by most of the people it has encountered. It will not trust anyone until that person has proven they can be trusted- as evidenced by the fact that it wouldn’t even trust Ash, the one person that changed its mind about humans, until Ash had literally risked his own life to save its. This can be extremely dangerous as it means it will consistently isolate itself and the game’s setting can play on its fear of being trapped or used against its will.
IDENTITY CRISIS: Mewtwo is still coping with where its place in the world really is and whether it even deserves one, being that it was created. It cycles between moments of deep philosophical lamentation about not belonging to being undaunted in challenging it and the other clones’ right to live, but the doubts come a lot stronger these days, especially after nearly murdering the entire world in an act of desperation to prove its superiority turned out to not help at all, and left it deeply perplexed. It’s still trying to solidify its sense of self and died before reconciling it.
Personality:
The first words Mewtwo can remember hearing when it was “born” were compliments from the scientists that made it about how amazing it was and what wonderful experiments will be performed on it because of their success. If this wasn’t enough to give a creature a complex, then trusting someone immediately after murdering all of those scientists who ended up lying to it, using it, and effectively torturing it probably didn’t help. It’s in these two betrayals that made Mewtwo who and what it is. It was told its purpose was to either be studied as a specimen or used for human greed, and when it broke free of the chokehold of those people, it realized it had no idea what it was or what it’s purpose truly was. Desperate, alone, and feeling superior due to its extreme power, it did what any reasonably broken individual would do… Try and take over the world.
It failed, obviously.
Mewtwo is, fundamentally, what happens when you take something with the IQ of a planet, the power of a god, and a will of its own, and then treat it like chattel. It has both an extremely high opinion of itself and a near-constant fear of not belonging anywhere, because of the nature of its being, making it temperamental and philosophical in equal measure. Due to having learned about life through harsh experiences, it sees no problems with the extreme actions it takes in most circumstances, having justified it through either protecting itself or protecting those under its charge- this extends to extremely kind acts, as well as extremely cruel acts. It, at one point, justifies saving a group of humans because it might bring more humans to the area it had settled in.
While cold and standoffish, especially to humans (which is better than its previous behaviors of being outright hostile and murderous), it doesn’t lack a heart. It considers the other clones its family and was willing to give its life to protect them from harm, and it’s possible to extend this to others, as well, especially people who can relate to its being “othered” and show it consistent, genuine kindness, which tends to confuse it. It’s trauma leads it to have to be shown that life is wonderful over and over again to drill into its head that it can be more than just a dissatisfied, lonely creature with no place, destined to be a shadow of the being it was cloned from.
Mewtwo is extremely erudite and well-spoken, while not necessarily polite. While it doesn’t understand emotional nuance on a lot of levels, it is capable of being both highly intelligent (it has a mastery of technology and... weirdly Gothic architecture somehow), highly cunning, and highly philosophical at times. Due to its telepathy, it rarely keeps things to itself and tends to “think out loud” rather than hold thoughts in, usually voicing whatever thought or feeling it might be presenting at the time. It has no need for secrets, no interest in keeping things bottled up, and never actually learned much about either, and probably wouldn’t care to. There’s a childish need for understanding underneath all of that haughty pride and there’s no way to understand unless it speaks its mind and receives feedback- whether it listens to said feedback or agrees or not.
It is extremely prideful, regardless of where it is in its mental development. Its death was a result of a battle of wills that it won by holding onto its mind as its body deteriorated. It does not break easily as it came pre-broken by experience. It might not know its purpose, but it has a strong sense of self and will not be treated poorly or like an inferior being if it has a choice in the matter.
It is also extremely dramatic. Like did it really need to invent an outdoor fighting arena in its giant fucking castle? Did it need a giant castle? No? Well, it thought it did, and if it wants to be show-y, IT WILL BE SHOWY AS HELL. It probably won't blow anything up.
Items: None. It doesn’t even wear pants.
